THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan has alleged that two senior IPS officers are putting severe pressure on the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to sabotage the investigation into the Sabarimala gold theft case. Satheesan warned that if the high-ranking officials do not desist from exerting pressure, their names will be revealed.

The IPS officers are trying to influence the investigation team at the instructions of the Chief Minister's office. Satheesan also pointed out that the High Court itself has affirmed that the investigation was slowed down due to this interference during the election period.

"It is a mystery that the theft that took place in 2019 went unreported for so long. If the High Court had not intervened, the theft would have been repeated in a similar manner in 2024. The court itself has mentioned the role of bigwigs including Devaswom Board members. The country is watching closely to see if their role will be revealed in the investigation," he said.

"The names are not being revealed now, only out of politeness. The names will be revealed if the sabotage attempt continues. The investigation is being closely monitored. The Congress demands a CBI investigation. If a situation arises where the Kerala Police cannot function independently, we will have to insist that the CBI itself is needed," VD Satheesan clarified.
