THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vande Bharat train coming from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram collided with an autorickshaw. The crash occurred at Akathumuri, near Varkala. The auto driver, Sudhi(28), has been taken into custody by the RPF. It is believed that he was drunk. A major accident was averted because the train locopilot, who noticed the auto on the tracks from a distance, slowed down.

Sudhi had fled after the autorickshaw fell on the tracks. The Kallambalam native jumped out of the autorickshaw after seeing the train approaching. He sustained minor injuries. It is unclear how the auto entered the tracks. Locals say that the auto was driven through the platform and onto the tracks.

The Vande Bharat was delayed for about an hour following the accident. The train resumed its journey at around 11.20 pm after the autorickshaw was removed from the track.
