KOLLAM: The Kollam Judicial First-Class Magistrate Court sought a report on the controversial speech of former MLA and CPM leader M Swaraj. The court sought the report on a complaint that alleged that Swaraj's speech regarding the entry of women into Sabarimala was baseless and controversial. The complaint was filed by Youth Congress state vice president Vishnu Sunil.

Vishnu Sunil filed a complaint along with a video of the speech. He initially filed a complaint with the Kollam West Police. However, Vishnu decided to approach the court after his complaint with the City Police Commissioner, and the West police yielded no response.

In the controversial speech, Swaraj said that it was the tears of Maalikapurathamma that caused the massive floods in Kerala in 2018. The CPM leader also said that this led to the end of Lord Ayyappa’s celibacy. The speech was controversial during that time and is even believed to have had a big effect on Swaraj's surprise defeat in the 2021 assembly elections.
