Actress’ sexual abuse complaint; Director Ranjith to be brought to caravan to collect evidence

KOCHI: The police will collect evidence with director Ranjith, arrested in a sexual abuse case, today. He will be brought to the caravan where he sexually abused her. The two caravans which were on the shooting set are in police custody.


Ranjith, remanded was sent to police custody yesterday for three days. The Ernakulam CJM court considered Ranjith's bail plea. The prosecutor argued that Ranjith had committed a serious crime. However, Ranjith's lawyer requested the court to consider his health condition. The lawyer argued that he has health problems in his spine and had undergone a liver transplant.

The actress complained that he tried to abuse her at the film location in Fort Kochi on January 9. Her complaint said that he tried to abuse her when she entered the caravan to meet Ranjith. He was taken into custody after stopping his car in Thodupuzha as per the directions of Idukki SP. The actress stated that she had suffered severe mental trauma following the assault and came forward with the complaint only after undergoing counseling. The police arrested him after being convinced that there was merit in her confidential statement.
