NEW DELHI: Former MP and actress Divya Spandana has reacted strongly against recent observations made by the Supreme Court on the issue of stray dogs. Her Instagram story, in which she compared the behaviour of stray dogs with human behaviour, has sparked wide discussions on social media.
'Can't read a man's mind too. Don't know when he will rape/murder. So, put all men in jail?' Divya wrote on her Instagram page. Her comments were in response to the court's remark that the behaviour of stray dogs cannot be predicted.
The Supreme Court had observed that the free movement of stray dogs and other animals on public roads poses a serious threat to pedestrians and the general public. "Roads must be free from stray dogs and other animals. No one knows which dog will be in what mood in the morning," the court said.
The observations were made by the bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and NV Anjaria. Justice Mehta also pointed out that incidents of stray dog attacks, even on judges in Rajasthan, were a serious matter.
Earlier, the court had warned of strict action against state governments and local bodies that fail to carry out sterilisation and vaccination of stray dogs. The court also directed that dogs should be removed from public places such as schools, hospitals, bus stands, and railway stations. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal argued that sterilising and vaccinating dogs and then releasing them back is a practical solution to the issue.
