IDUKKI: Former CPM MLA S Rajendran is all set to join Bharatiya Janata Party soon. Rajendran stated that he will join the party at a function to be held in Munnar.
Rajendran had held discussions with BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar in Thiruvananthapuram the other day. The meeting is said to have made the former Devikulam MLA come to a final decision on his big political switch.
Rajendran, the former heavyweight of CPM in the high-range terrain of Idukki, courted controversy earlier after he went for campaigning for BJP candidates in the local body elections. Rajendran canvassed for BJP in the plantation areas, including Edamalakudy and Devikulam. Rajendran’s association with CPM was on a downward slope for the last four years.
S Rajendran was a CPM MLA for 15 years. He was suspended for a year on charges of conspiring to defeat LDF candidate A Raja in the last assembly elections. Controversies arose when he was not reinstated into the party even after the suspension period expired.
