PATHANAMTHITTA: The police will file a plea today to get the custody of Rahul Mamkootathil MLA arrested in a sexual abuse case. The plea will be filed in Thiruvalla Judicial First-Class Magistrate’s Court. The investigation team has requested seven days of custody.
The investigation team will file the custody plea demanding that the complainant needs to be taken to the hotel where she was sexually assaulted and collect evidence and the mobile phone on which the nude images of the woman were captured has to be found. When Rahul was produced before the magistrate the other day, he had filed a bail plea.
However, the defense has decided not to hear the bail plea today. Rahul's lawyers have decided to hear the case after knowing the final order on the custody plea. Rahul has been remanded in custody for fourteen days in the case and lodged in the Mavelikkara sub-jail.
A 31-year-old married woman from Kottayam filed the complaint via email from Canada on January 5. The police had kept it secret. Even the police team was not given a clear indication until they came to room 2002 of the KPM Regency Hotel in Palakkad at 12.30 am on Sunday and knocked on the door.
Shoranur DySP N Muraleedharan, who was assigned to take him into custody was being directly instructed by DIG Poonguzhali, the head of the Special Investigation Team. Rahul did not yield to the police who entered the room. The police did not allow him to contact his lawyer or his followers. The outside world came to know about the information only after Rahul had crossed Thrissur.
