KASARAGOD: A case was registered against a CPM leader for allegedly sexually assaulting a 48-year-old woman. The Kasaragod women's police registered a case against S Sudhakaran, a member of the Enmakaje panchayat and a teacher at Ichilampady School. He is also the former local secretary of the CPM in Kumbala.

It was a week ago that the woman filed a complaint with the district police chief and the DGP. Protests were held by the BJP and others over the police showing laxity in registering a case against Sudhakaran. Sudhakaran was suspended from the party following the allegations. The police registered a case against him while the party assigned a three-member committee to investigate the case.

The complainant made serious sexual allegations against Sudhakaran, saying she was sexually harassed by the accused for over 20 years, which even resulted in her marriage collapsing. The housewife alleged that she had been experiencing harassment since 1995 after the accused promised her marriage. In the complaint, it is also said that the accused filmed nude videos of her in the school classroom. The woman said that the harassment didn’t stop even after she married another person. The complainant alleged that Sudhakaran had revealed to her about sexually assaulting even school students.

Sudhakaran, an accused in the Jabbar murder case, was acquitted by the Supreme Court, citing a lack of evidence.
