THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The flex hoardings removal drive in the city is going at a fast pace. Mayor V.V. Rajesh directed that the flex boards installed in the city, which have been there for months, be removed immediately.
The instructions were given by summoning officials from TACO, the agency contracted by the corporation to change the city's flex boards. The mayor announced that the agency should not shirk its responsibility to change the flex boards on time.
As part of the drive, flex boards, banners and hoardings were removed from all the important places in the city, including the corporation office and secretariat premises. Corporation employees also participated in the flex removal drive. There is a High Court directive to remove illegal flexes in the city promptly.
Although there are strict instructions in the corporation's bylaws, before installing banners, these are seldom followed.
The corporation's move is to impose restrictions on the flex boards of events in the city in general. Since the vast majority of those installing flex boards are political parties, a decision will be made after a meeting of all party representatives.
The corporation is also considering measures, including levying fines and cancelling licenses for agencies that do not change flex boards promptly.
