THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A mother and her daughter were found dead in an apparent suicide at their house in Aryankuzhi, Poonthura. The deceased have been identified as Greeshma (30) and her mother Sajitharaj (55), natives of Shanti Gardens in Aryankuzhi. According to preliminary police reports, both mother and daughter took their lives after Greeshma posted a message related to suicide in a family WhatsApp group. The note indicated that Greeshma was mentally distressed due to harassment from her husband. Police said that cyanide poisoning was the cause of death.

Greeshma had been married six years ago to Unnikrishnan from Pazhanchira. The couple had been together for only 29 days before tensions arose. The other day, following the death of a relative of Unnikrishnan, Greeshma and her mother visited the family and spoke to him. During this interaction, Unnikrishnan reportedly spoke harshly, which allegedly triggered a mental breakdown. Sajitharaj then fainted at the scene, and both mother and daughter later committed suicide. Police recovered a suicide note in which Greeshma held Unnikrishnan responsible for their deaths.

The note also mentioned that the family’s property, house, and vehicles should be handed over to relatives. Greeshma’s father, Rajeev, who worked as an Agricultural Director, had died months earlier due to a heart condition. The Poonthura police have completed the initial investigation and shifted the bodies to the Medical College hospital for post-mortem.
