KOZHIKODE: The police will soon file a custody plea for Shimjitha Musthafa, the accused in the incident where a youth committed suicide after a video of alleged sexual assault on a bus went viral on social media. Shimjitha, who was hiding at her sister's house in Muttungal West, Vadakara, was arrested by the Kozhikode Medical College Police yesterday afternoon. She was arrested in the suicide of Deepak of Kozhikode.

Although she is adamant about the allegation of sexual assault, the police have not received any evidence or statements to substantiate it. The police are likely to collect the statements of the staff and passengers of the bus where the incident took place and proceed with further action. The police will send her mobile phone that filmed the video for scientific examination. Shimjitha's move is to file a bail plea in the Kunnamangalam court today itself.

Shimjitha went into hiding after a case was registered against her for abetment to suicide on the complaint of Deepak's mother. The police had also issued a lookout notice against her as she had foreign connections. She was arrested during an investigation following a tip-off that she was in Vadakara.

The police found that the video shared by Shimjitha had been edited and shortened. The CCTV footage of the bus was also collected. Deepak's family demanded that IT Act and other sections be charged against Shimjitha. She posted the video on Instagram last Friday which she shot during a bus journey to Payyannur.
