NEW DELHI: Public sector bank employees will go on strike tomorrow (Tuesday), demanding a five-day working week. The strike is being led by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). The functioning of public sector banks is likely to be disrupted tomorrow due to the strike. UFBU is a coalition of nine employee organisations. The strike was announced after the failure of talks with the Labour Commissioner on January 23.
Bank employees currently have a holiday on the second and fourth Saturdays. The organisations are demanding that this be made every Saturday. The organisations had also announced that they would work 40 minutes more every day for this. The union leadership says that they had to go on strike because their demands were not accepted for a long time. Deposits, withdrawals, cheques, administrative procedures, etc. will be disrupted tomorrow. Meanwhile, the operations of private banks will not be affected by the strike.
