KANNUR: Convict who was released on emergency parole after claiming that his father was unwell broke the law and participated in the CPM protest demonstration. CPM councillor VK Nishad, who is a convict in the case of throwing a bomb at the police, participated in the demonstration. The law states that convicts should not participate in any political activities during parole. Nishad participated in the CPM protest demonstration against V Kunhikrishnan yesterday in violation of this.
Nishad obtained parole on the grounds that his father had undergone surgery on his knee. After actively participating in the protest, he was returned to Kannur Central Jail in the evening. There has been a lot of criticism since the video footage of Nishad participating in the protest was released.
Nishad was convicted in a case of attempting to kill a police officer in Payyannur by throwing a bomb. The bomb was thrown at the police during a clash related to the Shukkur murder case. The court sentenced Nishad to 20 years in prison in November. In the meantime, he contested the local elections while in jail and won as a Payyannur municipal councillor. Nishad was released on bail on December 26. His release on parole a month after the court's sentencing caused controversy. Nishad violated the parole rules and participated in the protest program when this controversy was still brewing. The prison department explained that Nishad's bail was part of the natural process.
