
KOCHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids in several districts of Kerala in connection with the activities of the Popular Front of India (PFI), an organisation banned by the central government. The raids were carried out at around 20 locations in Thrissur and Ernakulam districts. The operation, led by the Kochi unit of the NIA, began around midnight on Tuesday and continued till early Wednesday morning.
The raids were part of an investigation into attempts to revive the activities of the PFI and allegations of providing financial support for extremist activities. The NIA targeted the houses and offices of former office-bearers of the Popular Front and its political wing, the SDPI. Similar raids were also reported in Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, and Malappuram districts. The raids focused on six accused persons who are currently absconding. They are accused in several PFI-related cases as well as in the murder of RSS leader A Srinivasan in Palakkad.
