KOZHIKODE: Police on Friday conducted an evidence collection exercise with the accused Vaishakan in connection with the murder of a young woman, who was allegedly killed after being lured to a workshop on the pretext of committing suicide together. The accused was taken to the workshop at Malikadavu, Morikkara, Kakkodi, where the crime occurred. The exercise was carried out for about half an hour by a team led by Elathur Station Inspector K R Ranjith.
Police said crucial information was obtained from the woman’s diary, which was recovered from the workshop. According to the diary, the woman had been in a relationship with Vaishakan since her Plus One days. Based on these findings, sections under the POCSO Act have also been added to the case. The diary reportedly contains references suggesting that the accused had sexual perversions. As the diary is considered vital evidence, forensic experts will verify whether the handwriting belongs to the woman.
The incident came to light on the 24th of last month, when the woman was brought to a hospital after being found hanging at the workshop. However, police investigation later revealed that the accused had called her to the location under the guise of dying together and then murdered her in a premeditated manner.
Police said the accused and the woman had been in a relationship for nearly ten years. During questioning, it was revealed that Vaishakan had sexually abused the woman from a young age. The woman had reportedly insisted on marriage, but the accused avoided the proposal. Investigators said that after the woman learned about Vaishakan’s relationships with other women, she distanced herself from him. Fearing that the woman might reveal the details of the abuse, the accused decided to kill her, according to the findings of the preliminary investigation.
