Technical reasons, Naslen, screenplay issues...; Premalu 2 shelved?

Since the success of Premalu in 2024, the makers have been teasing the audience about a sequel, which they even officially announced. Naslen, Mamitha Baiju and Sangeeth Prathap, the super hit trio from the movie, were said to have been roped in for the sequel along with another surprise cast. The sequel poster was also released.

However, it didn’t take long for the hype to suffer a setback as rumours surfaced about Naslen backing out of the project. It was rumoured that the actor fell out with the makers over script differences. Producers soon clarified the issue, saying the shoot was delayed due to technical reasons and will start filming by the second half of 2025. However, no progress happened while actress Mamitha Baiju decided to try her luck in Kollywood by signing a slew of movies there.

However, now speculations are rife that the makers have dropped the project, and an official announcement will be made anytime. Girish AD, the writer and director of the movie, had already announced his next project with Nivin Pauly titled ‘Bethlehem Family Unit’. Mamitha Baiju has been roped in to play the female lead. The movie is set for Onam 2026 release.

Premalu, released on a modest budget of 12 crores, went on to collect Rs 135 crores in box office and emerged as one of the biggest hits from Mollywood in 2024.
