THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram Deputy Commissioner of Police started an investigation into the alleged police lapses in the car accident case involving popular actor Maniyanpilla Raju. The statement of the SHO of the Museum station was recorded. City Police Commissioner K. Karthik announced that further action will be taken after receiving the DCP's report.
There was criticism against the police for not taking Raju into custody on the night of the incident. The DCP was assigned to investigate the case. Meanwhile, SHO Vimal gave a statement that there was no lapse in the police's actions. The proceedings began at 1 am. The police clarified that the car could not be found at that time due to technical reasons.
The Special Branch is also investigating allegations that police, from the beginning, showed an attitude of protecting Raju. The police, who came to the actor’s house at night, returned empty-handed, not finding the actor and providing a feeble excuse that the actor's mobile phone was switched off. The failure to check the CCTV cameras on the main roads and take the car into custody at night is also being pointed out as a lapse.
It was only hours after the accident that the blood sample of the actor was taken for testing. This eliminated the possibility of getting accurate test results. Meanwhile, the Museum Police rejected Maniyanpilla Raju's claim that he called the police after the accident.
The injured were taken to the hospital by the police and locals. Raju contacted the police through his lawyer on Friday morning. After registering the arrest, a blood sample was collected and sent for chemical testing to determine whether he was drunk. The report will be available in three days.
