BENGALURU: The special investigation team (SIT) said that there is no evidence against income tax officials in the suicide of Confident Group Chairman C J Roy. There is no evidence for the officials putting pressure on Roy. The investigation team also said that the officials did not question Roy on the day he committed suicide. The SIT has found that Roy was dealing with severe mental stress and depression and had consulted a psychiatrist. It is also investigating the reasons for his mental stress.
The managing director of Confident Group T A Joseph had earlier said that income tax officials had not put pressure on Roy in the name of search.
'None including film stars and politicians, has any investment in Confident Group. If they prove in writing that they have any investment, double the amount will be paid. This is a debt-free firm. There is no black money or benami money. We don’t owe any money to anyone. Many owe money to us. Money was spent transparently in films and entertainment programs. A maximum of Rs 20 lakh was given in this regard.
Income Tax officials have been conducting inspections for 6-7 years. This was just a routine inspection. The offices were inspected in 2016 and 2025. Cooperated with the officials. The officials acted honorably. I cannot say about the cause of the chairman's death. I am not aware of any financial, physical or family issues. He has not told me about dealing with any mental stress.
I have not seen C J Roy's diary. I handed over the letter written by Roy to his family, to the police. I did not read the letter even though I had it in my hand for eight hours. It is not right to read what was written for his family. The plea filed in December 2025 against the harassment by the officials of income tax department was later withdrawn. After a few days, withdrew the plea after understanding that it was not needed. Brother of C J Roy said that he was troubled by the income tax officials was without knowing facts. Some are circulating things without any facts. He and the company are satisfied with the investigation,' clarified T A Joseph.
