NEW DELHI: Historian Irfan Habib escaped an attempted attack at Delhi University. A bucket filled with water was thrown at him while he was delivering a speech in front of the Arts Faculty. The water was thrown from behind the stage. The attack took place during an event called the People's Literature Festival, organised by the university's student body, AISA.

AISA alleged the role of ABVP behind the shameful attack on one of India’s eminent historians. The incident caused panic for a while, but Irfan Habib returned from the university only after completing his speech.

Irfan Habib told the media that it was intolerance that led to the attack while he was talking about the current political trend of stifling freedom in the country’s educational institutions. Habib said that he did not want to file a complaint or comment further on the incident.
