THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reports say the level of ultraviolet radiation is reportedly increasing at an alarming rate in various parts of the state. The authorities have advised the public to be vigilant as exposure to sunlight can cause health issues.

An orange alert has been issued after the UV index was recorded at 8 in Munnar, Idukki and Chengannur in Alappuzha. The UV index was recorded at 7 in Changanassery. Since the workers are likely to suffer from sunstroke due to the intense sun, the Labour Commissioner has issued an order reorganizing the working hours.

There will be mandatory rest from 12 noon to 3 pm for those working in the sun during the day. The working hours have been fixed at eight hours between 7 am and 7 pm. The morning shift should end at 12 noon. The afternoon shift should start only at 3 pm. The health department recommends drinking plenty of water and avoiding direct sunlight during hot weather.
