KOZHIKODE: The woman who stole a gold necklace from a child's neck in Nilambur and swallowed it, threw it in the closet and flushed it to prevent the police from getting it. The woman's ruse was while the police were on guard for the past five days.

It is reported that the police had given the woman a diaper as well. The necklace came out last night when the woman went to the toilet. She then threatened to throw her excrement at the police and flushed the necklace down the toilet. The woman has also been charged with destroying evidence and obstructing the police in their duty.

Sameena (35) stole the necklace after pampering the child who came to the hospital and swallowed it when she was caught later. The gold necklace she swallowed weighed 3.5 grams. The incident took place last Thursday. Subsequently, Sameena was admitted to the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital by the police.

A gold earring was found in the stomach in addition to the necklace in the X-ray examination conducted yesterday to recover the necklace. It is suspected that this is Sameena's earring. It is believed that the woman swallowed her own earring to make it appear as though she had swallowed her own gold, rather than the child's gold necklace. The accused, who was produced in court and remanded, was taken into police custody to recover the gold. The woman, who has completed her remand period, has been transferred to Manjeri Sub-Jail.
