
PATHANAMTHITTA: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited the house of Alin Sherin, the youngest organ donor in the state. The Chief Minister visited Alin Sherin's bereaved family along with Health Minister Veena George. The Chief Minister informed the family that the state's first Organ and Tissue Transplant Institute, to be established in Kozhikode, will be named after Alin Sherin. The Chief Minister praised Alin's family and added that the institute being named after Alin would serve as a great message to society. The Chief Minister returned after consoling the family members.
It was Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who laid the foundation stone of the institute to be set up in Chevayur under the Health Department. Preparations to temporarily start the institute's activities at the PMSSY block of Kozhikode Medical College are also in the final stages.
Alin Sherin Abraham, declared brain dead following a car accident on February 13, gave a new lease of life to four other children. Her heart valve, liver, kidneys and eyes were donated. Alin, who was seriously injured in a road accident on MC Road on the 5th of this month, died while undergoing treatment at Amrita Hospital in Ernakulam. After being confirmed brain dead, the family decided to donate Alin's organs.
