THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Prominent candidates, including BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, will contest in the capital district. The BJP state election committee, which met at Mararji Bhavan on Tuesday, held preliminary discussions on the selection of candidates.

Apart from Rajeev Chandrasekhar, V. Muraleedharan, P.K. Krishnadas, R. Sreelekha and others will enter the fray in Thiruvananthapuram district. It has been agreed that the T20 party, which recently joined the NDA, will be given more seats in Ernakulam. Another popular leader, Sobha Surendran, will contest in Alappuzha district. Sobha will likely be fielded in Kayamkulam or Aroor. It is reported that Sobha has also shown interest in a constituency in the Thiruvananthapuram district.

An agreement will soon be reached with the BDJS, the main constituent of the front. BDJS have demanded 40 seats. BDJS earlier demanded that some of the seats contested in the last election be replaced. Only after an agreement is reached on the BDJS seats will there be clarity on the constituencies where BJP leaders will be contesting.

Former BJP state presidents, state general secretaries, some of the vice presidents, and other senior leaders attended the meeting.
