
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The investigation report has found serious lapse from the side of Dr Bindu Sundar of Nedumangad District Hospital in connection with the death of the newborn. It was found that there was a delay in performing the C-section. The investigation committee also found that the decision could have been taken earlier. The findings are of the three-member investigation committee of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
Dr Bindu Sundar has been suspended in the incident. The doctor has been transferred to Punalur Taluk Hospital following protests staged against her. Allegations of medical negligence have been levelled against the doctor earlier also. The father of the newborn had told the media that he had paid a bribe to the doctor. The health department suspended her in the wake of it.
The human rights commission also ordered an investigation into the death of the child. Human Rights Commission Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas directed the district medical officer to submit an investigation report within a month. The baby girl of Renjana Krishna of Vithura Manali Adivasi Ooru died on February 17 after cesarean. The case was registered on the complaint filed by Youth Congress district vice president Saidali Kaipadi.
When Renjana came for a routine check-up, she was advised to be admitted for delivery. She was admitted to the labor room at 4 am. The baby was delivered by cesarean section at 2 pm, but later informed about the baby’s death. Relatives alleged that the delay in performing the surgery was the reason for the baby's death. Relatives also said that Dr Bindu had left the place without giving an explanation for the baby's death.
