ALAPPUZHA: Former minister G Sudhakaran, who has announced that he will not renew his membership in the CPM, alleging serious neglect and humiliation within the party, may contest the upcoming election as an independent candidate from the Ambalappuzha constituency. Sudhakaran said he has not thought about seeking
Sudhakaran said he has not thought about seeking support from either the UDF or the BJP. He said he would contest as an individual, and anyone is free to support him. However, he added that he would not take a stand against the party.
At the same time, the CPM has begun efforts to persuade Sudhakaran to reconsider his decision. Party leaders are concerned about the possible impact if the senior leader, who has strong public support in the district, contests against the official party candidate. Sudhakaran had earlier expressed his desire to become the party candidate in Ambalappuzha.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is scheduled to visit Alappuzha on Saturday to attend several events. There is curiosity about whether he will meet Sudhakaran in person during the visit. Even though his decision has become a hot topic of discussion in state politics, Sudhakaran has decided not to make detailed public comments for now. Responding briefly, he said, "Silence is strength."
After Sudhakaran posted a critical note on Facebook, CPM state secretary M V Govindan called him on Wednesday night to explain his side. Govindan clarified that his laughter during a press conference was in response to a journalist’s question and was not meant as a personal insult. Sudhakaran listened but did not respond much, according to reports. M A Baby, the CPM general secretary, also called him but reportedly did not receive a positive response.
‘Sudhakaran factor’ may affect elections
Political observers say the “Sudhakaran factor” could affect the LDF’s prospects in several constituencies in Alappuzha district. The UDF is also carefully watching the developments. It is reported that AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal has suggested giving alternative constituencies to leaders who were being considered for the Congress candidate list in Ambalappuzha. The political situation will become clearer if the UDF leaves the Ambalappuzha seat open in its candidate list.
I haven't mocked Sudhakaran. I called him to clarify the misunderstanding. I also requested him to renew his party membership.

Sudhakaran only revealed his personal experiences. No one needs to teach him how to make his political decisions.
