WELLINGTON: Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who rose to worldwide popularity and recognition following her deft handling of the covid crisis, is now back in the news for all odd reasons. The former head of the country was seen house hunting in Australia recently. It was confirmed that Jacinda was among the thousand others who all have recently migrated to Australia in look for better life conditions.
In 2025 alone, New Zealand, with just a population of 5.3 million, witnessed 66,000 people leaving the country. The lagging economy and the shortage of houses were cited as the reasons. However, experts offer a different take, saying that New Zealanders prefer overseas experience from their young days and would love to live in a different country before coming back to their roots.
However, the bigger concerns need to be addressed as New Zealand is now reeling with unemployment and grocery prices breaking the roof. Most Kiwis prefer switching to Australia as the country provides equal rights, and the procedures related to extending stay in the country seem relatively generous.
Jacinda Ardern was elected the Prime Minister at the age of 37 in 2017 and went on to lead her country through the infamous terrorist attack inside a church and the covid crisis. Ardern deciding to opt for the affluent beaches of Sydney to continue her life tells a lot about the touted life in the scenic, idyllic terrain of New Zealand.
