AHMEDABAD: The presence of former captains M S Dhoni and Rohit Sharma in the VIP box thrilled the fans when India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the T20 World Cup final to retain the world title. However, the absence of Virat Kohli, another legend in the world of cricket, disappointed the fans. Why did Kohli not come to watch the final? May be due to these two reasons
Dhoni and Rohit attended the T20 World Cup final in an official capacity. This was as former captains who won the World Cup. While Dhoni won the maiden match of T20 World Cup for India in 2007, Rohit won the title after defeating South Africa in 2024. Despite being a superstar in Indian cricket, Virat Kohli has not been able to win the T20 World Cup as a captain. Therefore, Kohli did not have any special role officially among the former World Cup-winning captains.
Kohli, who retired from Test and T20 formats, is presently spending time with his family. His words about retirement in a previous interview was that 'Once I stop playing, you will not see me for a while. So, I want to give it everything I have till the time I play, and that’s the only thing that keeps me going,’ he said.
'Kohli, who ended Test T20 cricket, must have celebrated India's victory at home with his family and friends in a way that he probably never managed to do in the past.
