ALAPPUZHA: The CPM Alappuzha district secretariat has decided to launch a strong campaign against G Sudhakaran, who is contesting as an independent candidate in Ambalappuzha. The party plans to counter the allegations raised by Sudhakaran against the CPM and its leaders. State secretariat members will visit all constituencies in the district to explain the party’s stand.

Apart from general body meetings attended by state leaders, the CPM will also organise public meetings with the participation of state and national leaders. The CPM state secretary will also attend these meetings. The campaign will focus on the claim that Sudhakaran has betrayed the party.

The CPM has also decided to take strict action against anyone supporting or working for Sudhakaran, including expelling them from the party’s primary membership. Notably, after some secretariat members who earlier raised Sudhakaran’s issue in party meetings left the party, no one has come forward to speak in his support.

Meanwhile, A M Ariff, who is contesting from Aluva, will be replaced by district secretariat member V G Mohanan as the LDF election committee secretary in Cherthala. The meeting was attended by Minister Saji Cherian and CPM central committee member C S Sujatha, among others.

Sudhakaran betrayed the party: Saji Cherian

CPM state secretariat member and minister Saji Cherian said that Sudhakaran has political motives behind contesting in Ambalappuzha and that he has betrayed the party. Cherian added that even if Sudhakaran does not feel it is a betrayal, it reflects a political decline. According to Saji Cherian, Sudhakaran’s decision to go against the movement that supported him is “political suicide.”

“We are expressing our pain over that decision. One should not betray the movement for positions after becoming a minister or an MLA. We will tell the people what actually happened. This is part of an agenda created earlier by the Congress. Sudhakaran has not even submitted a single letter to the party claiming that he was ignored in any matter. In Ambalappuzha, the real contest is between the Left Democratic Front and the United Democratic Front. The CPM has no intention of making any adjustment with the Bharatiya Janata Party in the panchayats of Chengannur constituency. I will not give a personal opinion on Sudhakaran’s allegations without examining the facts. The party will take a political stand on such matters,” Saji Cherian said.
