
NEW DELHI: K Sudhakaran MP has finally got the Kannur seat amid intense drama. The high command gives in to K Sudhakaran's threat to contest as an independent in Kannur if party does not give him seat. The leadership finally decided to give him seat in Kannur. Senior leader A K Antony personally called and spoke to him. The Congress had announced the name of T O Mohanan in Kannur and now he will be replaced with Sudhakaran. Sudhakaran had considered to form a new party and contest if denied a seat, which prompted leaders including Antony to step forward.
The high command finally decided to field Sudhakaran in Kannur following dramatic developments in Delhi. There were speculations that Sudhakaran would contest as an independent. The leadership thought that it was his pressure tactic, but as the situation seemed to be getting out of hand, they gave in to his demand.
It is hinted that A K Antony and Ramesh Chennithala urged the high command to give Sudhakaran a seat. However, opposition leader V D Satheesan reportedly maintained his stand that MPs should not be given seats.
