
TEHRAN: Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr has been appointed as the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC). The SNSC is a powerful body that makes key decisions on Iran’s war strategies, nuclear policy, and foreign threats. Zolghadr was appointed following the death of former secretary Ali Larijani. The Iranian government officially announced the appointment. Ali Larijani was killed on March 17 along with his son and other senior officials.
Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr is a retired senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). He has long-standing experience in Iran’s military and security sectors. Due to his role in Iran’s security system, he has been sanctioned by the European Union, Canada, and several other countries.
Meanwhile, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the Iran-US conflict with US President Donald Trump, according to US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, in a post on X. The two leaders also discussed various issues in the Middle East, including keeping the Strait of Hormuz open.
At the same time, reports have emerged that Pakistan is ready to act as a mediator in the conflict between Iran and the US-Israel alliance. According to a Financial Times report, Pakistan is trying to use its ties with both Iran and the United States to help end the conflict. Senior representatives from Iran and the US are expected to meet in Islamabad later this week.
