TEHRAN: Iran has claimed that it launched cruise missiles at the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Strait of Hormuz. The report was aired by Iranian state television. Earlier, Iran had warned that the carrier was under its surveillance and would be targeted if it attempted to breach its boundaries.
Following the warning, Iran now says the attack has been carried out. However, there has been no official response from the United States so far.
Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani had previously stated that the vessel would be attacked if it entered the operational range of Iran’s missile systems. An Iranian military spokesperson also claimed that the United States’ strategic strength had turned into a “strategic failure.” However, Iran has not provided details on the extent of any damage or confirmed whether the missiles hit their intended target.

The latest escalation comes after U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly backed away from a 48-hour ultimatum to strike Iran’s energy facilities. Iran had earlier warned that any attack on its energy infrastructure would be met with strikes on energy installations across the region.
