ALAPPUZHA: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan came down heavily on former minister G Sudhakaran, who severed ties with the CPM. Speaking at the press meet convened in Alappuzha, the chief minister said Sudhakaran, who has now worn the cap of the Congress, would reject all past things. He added that he believes Sudhakaran will slip further into political degeneration. Pinarayi also added that Sudhakaran might have left the party after holding discussions with Congress leaders.
Alappuzha is the land of the Punnapra-Vayalar struggle victims. In our political journey, we have gone through many phases, and in those phases, many people have undergone major changes. Alappuzha is a district that has stood firm during such times. That is the strength of the movement here. The loyalty of the people here is strong, they stand not with individuals, but with the party. The people here show even more enthusiasm and commitment than party workers. This is such a district. Not even a single vote will be lost in Alappuzha due to the stand of opportunists.
G Sudhakaran would not have joined the Congress overnight. Discussions related to this must have happened earlier. There might have been prior talks with Congress leaders. Perhaps during those discussions, he may have said that if he left the CPI (M) and contested, around 15,000 votes would come from that party and that might have been something the Congress also liked.
He also said that he would get 5,000 votes from the BJP. When a candidate speaks about expected votes for the first time, doesn’t that mean he is also becoming a candidate of the BJP? The calculation seems to be that he can win with the support of Congress and BJP votes. Such discussions must have taken place earlier, said Pinarayi.
