WASHINGTON: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has asked Army Chief of Staff General Randy George to step down as US intensifies war against Iran. He was serving as the army chief of staff since August 2023. Hegseth had fired more than a dozen top generals and admirals since taking office last year.
George graduated from West Point Military Academy. He was part of the first Gulf War and in military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also served as a top military aide to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin from 2021 to 2022 during the Biden administration. He then rose to a high-ranking position in the military.
President Donald Trump fired Attorney General Pam Bondi (60) yesterday. This was due to dissatisfaction with Bondi's performance. Todd Blanch later took over as acting attorney general. Bondi was Florida's attorney general from 2011 to 2019. There were strong allegations that Bondi and the Justice Department had failed in their handling of the recently released investigative documents (Epstein Files) related to notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The accidental release of the names of some victims included in the Epstein files and the reluctance to make some documents public drew criticism.
