THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kattakada police have launched an intensive investigation into the suspicious death of a newborn baby following a home delivery in Poozhanadu on Sunday afternoon. The incident involves 21-year-old Shamna, wife of Altaf, who was rushed to a hospital with excessive bleeding. Hospital authorities alerted law enforcement after discovering suspicious injuries on the infant’s neck and body, leading to the recovery of the remains for a detailed forensic examination.
According to statements provided to the police, the birth occurred while Altaf was away from the house seeking an autorickshaw to transport Shamna for what he believed was general stomach pain. Upon his return, he found his wife and the newborn covered in blood and immediately moved them to a medical facility. The case is further complicated by claims from Altaf and other relatives that they were entirely unaware Shamna was nine months pregnant, a detail that has added significant mystery to the circumstances surrounding the delivery.
The Kattakada police are currently investigating how the physical injuries on the baby were caused and whether there was any foul play involved. While Shamna continues to receive medical treatment for post-delivery complications, investigators are questioning family members and awaiting the results of a formal autopsy to determine the exact cause of the infant's death.
