PALAKKAD: Police are heading towards a detailed investigation into the death of a nurse in Kizhakkanchery after the victim’s father came forward with a complaint suspecting it to be a murder.

John filed a complaint with Aluva rural SP over the mysterious death of his daughter, Lena John.

Lena, a staff nurse at Thrissur Mother’s Hospital, went to Ernakulam on March 24th, telling her family that she had an examination to attend. The family was later told that Lena was rushed to the hospital during the exams after she experienced a severe stomachache. She died before reaching the hospital.

However, a few other friends told the family that Lena collapsed immediately after eating the Yemeni dish Kuzhimanthi from a hotel. However, the postmortem report mentioned the presence of poison inside her body. This led to suspicion of murder, and the family accused two of Lena's male friends.

Lena had told her family that she would go to Aluva to collect a certificate regarding nursing. She even called her mother on the morning of the incident. Four hours after the call, the family got to know that Lena had died due to alleged food poisoning.

Lena was an active member of the United Nurses Association and took part in several protests for the organisation. Police are seriously investigating the case and have already taken the statements of hospital authorities and Lena’s friends.
