WASHINGTON: More information has emerged in the incident of a man shooting eight children including seven of his own in the USA. 31-year-old Shamar Elkins shot and killed all eight children. The shooting was around 6 am on Sunday in Shreveport, Louisiana. Seven of the eight children who died in the two-hour attack were Shamar Elkins' own children. The children were between the ages of three and 11.
Two including the gunman's wife and mother, were injured in the shooting. The attack happened in three homes. The gunman was killed in a shootout with police who chased him. Police, who said the attack was a family dispute, refused to provide further details.
Sunday's shooting was the largest mass shooting in the United States in two years. Police said the suspect Shamar Elkins was arrested in a weapons case in 2019. However, he has no history of domestic violence. Seven children were found dead inside the second house. An eighth child died while trying to escape by jumping from the top of a third home. Another child who jumped from the top of the house is in hospital with injuries. This child's injuries are not serious.
Three boys and five girls are the victims. Relatives said the suspect was estranged from his wife.
