PALODE: Two people including husband Abhijith and friend Ajas have been arrested by Palode police over the suicide of newly-wed bride Induja (25) in Nanniyode. Induja, daughter of Palode Idinjar Konnamudu Kizhakumkara house natives Sasidharankani-Sheeja couple, was found hanging at her husband’s house on Friday afternoon.

According to Abhijith, Ajas slapped Induja just one day before her death. Abhijith was charged with incitement to suicide, inflicting bodily harm and domestic violence, while Ajas was charged with incitement to suicide and assault.

Ajas, Induja and Abhijith were together at school. Ajas and Induja were in a relationship and even had plans to marry. However, the relatives doused the plan citing the religious difference. Three months ago, Abhijith married Induja at a temple in Pullampara. The marriage however was not registered.

Induja was an employee of a private lab. A team comprising Kattakkada DYSP Shibu, Palode CI Anish Kumar and SI Rahim are investigating the case.

As per reports, Induja maintained contact with Ajas even after her marriage to Abhijith. Lately, Ajas had suspicions about Induja having a relationship with another youngster. Just one day before her death, Ajas took Induja to Shankhumugham beach in his car and enquired about her new dalliance. The talks turned worse and Ajas ended up slapping Induja. He also asked Abhijith to call off the marriage and leave Induja. The same day, after Induja returned home, a bitter talk ensued between Abhijith and Induja and it ended up with Abhijith beating Induja.

The next day by noon, Induja called Ajas to tell him about her decision to end her life. And by noon, when Abhijith reached home for lunch, Induja had been long gone.

The police said that after Induja's death, the accused deleted all the information on their phones. There is no record of Ajas calling Induja from his phone. Ajas and Abhijith also deleted their WhatsApp records. Their phones have been handed over to Cyber Cell. The police are trying to trace the chats and phone conversations.

The police are looking for the tower location and the CCTV footage of the day when Ajas is said to have Induja to the beach, where it is alleged that the victim was assaulted. In the first phase of interrogation, the accused did not confess to the crime. The police soon presented the evidence which made the duo change their stance and admit to torturing the victim.
