THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department predicted the possibility of rain in Kerala for the next five days. IMD issued a yellow alert in various districts. On the 30th, a yellow alert has been issued in Kannur and Kasaragod districts. On May 1, a yellow alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Wayanad districts and on the second day of the next month in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts.

Isolated heavy rain is predicted. Heavy rain is defined as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is received in 24 hours. IMD announced that there is a possibility of rain with thunder and strong winds with a speed of 40-50 kmph from the 29th to May 1.

Lightning is dangerous. It can cause great damage to human and animal lives, electrical and communication networks, and household appliances connected to electrical conductors. Therefore, the public should take the following precautions from the moment they first see a thunderstorm. Since lightning may not always be visible, do not refrain from taking such precautions.

Immediately move inside a safe building after seeing the first sign of lightning. Remaining in open areas increases the risk of being struck by lightning.

Keep windows and doors closed during periods of strong winds and lightning. Do not stand near doors and windows. Stay inside the building and try to avoid touching walls or floors as much as possible.
