KOLKATA: Suvendu Adhikari, leader of Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal, registered a win by a big margin in Nandigram. It is reported that BJP won the constituency by a margin of 9000 votes. Trinamool Congress strongman Pabitra Kar came second, amassing more than one lakh votes in the constituency.
During the early hours of counting, Suvendhu trailed and there remained ambiguity over the results. It was on the same turf that Adhikari soundly defeated Mamata Banerjee in 2021. Nandigram has been the political epicentre of West Bengal, once helping Mamata come to power in 2011.
Union Minister Amit Shah had earlier promised that a son of the soil would be made the Chief Minister of the state. As per the reports, it is evident that Suvendu Adhikari, who orchestrated this historical win in the elections along with BJP leadership, will arguably be the next man to helm affairs at the State.
