INDORE: The Indian cricket team recorded a comfortable victory against Sri Lanka in the second T20I in Indore on Tuesday. With just 143 runs to chase, India managed to reach the finishing lines with seven wickets in hand. Pacer Navdeep Saini was adjudged Man of the Match for his figures of 2/18.
Choosing to bowl first, skipper Virat Kohli led the team in a fine way with his bowlers picking up wickets at regular intervals. While the Sri Lankan openers, Danushka Gunathilaka (20) and Avishka Fernando (22), gave a decent start to the visitors, no other batsmen except Kusal Perera (34) were able to make a significant contribution with the bat. For India, Shardul Thakur took 3 wickets, while Navdeep Saini and Kuldeep Yadav two wickets each. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who made a comeback into international cricket, picked up a wicket.
Chasing a comparatively small total, the openers KL Rahul (45)and Shikhar Dhawan (32), managed to get a good start for India. Shreyas Iyer (34) and Virat Kohli (24 not out) also chipped in to get the team past the target.
With the victory, India goes 1-0 ahead in the three-match series with the first T20I abandoned. The final match will be played in Pune on Friday.
