KOLLAM: Three railway cleaning workers were arrested on Tuesday for assaulting a housewife and her daughter-in-law during a train journey. The incident occurred in the Mysore-Kochuveli express night after the accused began misbehaving with the women. The arrested men have been identified as Vishnu V Dev (22) from Kottarakkara, Gokul (22) from Chavara and Shiju(30) from Pulikkara.
The housewife and her daughter-in-law were returning from Bengaluru when six cleaning workers including the three culprits entered the AC compartment in which they were seated. After identifying that the women are from Kerala, the culprits began misbehaving and hurled abuses at them. The three even attempted to pull down the woman from her berth.
Though the women tried dialing the railway's alert number 182, there was no response. Following this, the women approached the TTE and soon the three men were held back. They were later arrested by the police at the Kayamkulam railway station. After presenting them at the court, the three have been remanded in police custody.
