PALAKKAD: A Motor Vehicle Inspector was killed on Thursday after a tipper lorry ran over him during an inspection at Velanthavalam in Palakkad. The deceased has been identified as V Azhar Muhammad, a native of Kuttippuram in Malappuram.
According to sources, Azhar was run over by the lorry near the Nalloor petrol pump while he was chasing it after the driver refused to stop for inspection. The lorry, carrying granite from Tamil Nadu, was on its way to Kerala when the officials signalled to stop it at the check post. As the driver refused to stop the lorry, Azhar began chasing it on a bike. The inspector was run over by the truck when he attempted to obstruct its path.
Following this, the driver fleed from the truck. Though Azhar was rushed to a nearby private hospital, he was soon pronounced dead. His body is currently kept at the mortuary of the District Hospital. Police have registered a case and started the investigation.
