Rs 131 cr budget for NSS; members to get Rs 10,000 loan

CHANGANASSRY: Nair Service Society (NSS) general secretary G Sukumaran Nair presented the annual budget for the financial year 2020-21, expecting an income and expenditure of Rs 131 crore.

Each member will be lent a loan of Rs 10,000 each in the wake of Covid-induced financial crisis.

In all Karayogams, women self-help groups and entrepreneurs will cooperate with State-Central projects and do vegetable cultivation, mini dairy unit, poultry, goat farming, fish farming and farmers’ producers’ organisation will be started.

The 106th budget was presented via videoconferencing here on Wednesday. It eyes an income of Rs 24.98 crore from the capital sector and Rs 106.01 crore from the revenue sector. It also anticipates an expenditure of Rs 43.27 crore and Rs 87.72 crore for the capital and revenue sectors respectively.

The income from unaided schools and unaided colleges has been calculated to be Rs 12.63 crore and Rs 4.10 crore respectively, while an extra income of Rs 9.49 crore is expected from the plantations its owns.

An amount of Rs 13.15 crore has been put aside for construction and maintenance purpose. A good portion of it will be utilised for the construction of NSS convention center in Perunna.

While an amount of Rs 3.81 crore has been set aside for construction and maintenance works of aided schools and colleges, the health sector will get assistance worth Rs 38.81 crore.

Meanwhile, Nair said that the unilateral reforms being made by the State government in general education sector without any consultation with the managements will ruin the sector of the State.

On the other hand, Nair also praised the State and the union governments towards assisting people in Covid lockdown times.

Nair was re-elected the NSS general secretary while, M. Sasikumar was elected treasurer.

Eight others to the NSS director board were also elected unopposed. They are Kalanjoor Madhu (Adoor); N.V. Ayyappan Pillai (Karunagappally); Chithara S. Radhakrishnan Nair (Chadayamangalam); K.K. Padmanabha Pillai (Ambalappuzha); V.A. Baburaj (Nedumangad); R. Balakrishna Pillai (Pathanapuram); G. Thankappan Pillai (Kottakkara); and Kottukal Krishna Kumar (Neyyattinkara).
