KOCHI: A decision has been taken to reduce actors’ remuneration to overcome the financial crisis due to COVID-19. The decision was taken at the executive meet of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) held at Chakkaraparambu Holiday Inn Hotel. AMMA will inform producers association that they are ready to reduce their remuneration by upto 50%.

Meantime, the meet has to be suspended as Chakkaraparambu comes under the containment zone. The hotel was closed following the directive of the district administration.

The film producers association had asked actors for a pay cut considering COVID-19 crisis. The producers directed actors including superstars to reduce their remuneration by half. AMMA was upset on the producers discussing the pay cuts of actors and technicians to public without discussing with them. That is why the executive committee was convened today.

AMMA was against producers association’s stand not to begin shooting of new films. AMMA’s stand is that the work of actors cannot be stopped as the film has been stalled for more than 100 days.

They decided to cooperate if shooting of new films begin. Reports said a decision could not be taken as the meet convened today had to be suspended.

In the meantime, congress activist protested for convening the meet at the containment zone. Reports said some activists barged into the hotel.
