THRISSUR: BJP leader B Gopalakrishnan on Thursday raised suspicion that Congress leader KC Venugopal might have hidden Swapna Suresh, the key accused in the diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case. According to Gopalakrishnan, Venugopal might have intervened in the issue as he happened to be the first sponsor of Swapna in the state. While lashing out at Congress, the BJP leader also said that he was ready to produce evidence regarding Venugopal's involvement in the issue.
An investigation must be conducted to identify the Congress leader who had recommended Swapna to the consulate, Gopalakrishnan said. He also alleged that Swapna got a job in Air India while KC Venugopal was serving as the Minister of State for Civil Aviation. "Congress does not have any sincerity regarding the gold smuggling case. The investigating officials must also look into the interventions made by KC Venugopal during the period in which he served as minister," he said.
