Kerala records 1195 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, 971 cases through contact; 1234 recoveries

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state has confirmed 1195 new coronavirus positive cases on Wednesday, CM Pinarayi Vijayan has said.


Among the new cases, 971 persons developed the disease through contact including 79 cases without an identified source of infection, 66 persons came from abroad and 125 from other states. 13 health workers developed the disease on Wednesday.


1234 coronavirus patients tested negative for the virus today. This is the highest single-day recovery in Kerala so far.


Seven deaths were reported on Wednesday.

District wise break up of positive cases:

Thiruvananthapuram-274, Malappuram-167, Kasaragod-128, Ernakulam-120, Alappuzha-108, Thrissur-86, Kannur-61, Kottayam-51, Kozhikode-39, Palakkad-41, Idukki-39, Pathanamthitta-37, Kollam-30, Wayanad-14.

The intensity of the virus transmission has come down in Poonthura and Vizhinjam while the spread is not slowing down in Aluva and Fort Kochi. A curfew will be imposed in Fort Kochi.

In the past 24 hours, 25096 samples were tested. As of today, 4,17,939 samples were sent for testing. The results of 6444 samples are awaited.

There are 1,40,474 persons under observation. There are 11,167 active cases in the state. 1444 persons were admitted to hospitals on Wednesday.

Currently, there are 515 hotspots in the state.
