MALAPPURAM: Recent reports claim that the Malappuram police have decided not to take any action against civil police officer Nizar who saluted groups of volunteers who helped in evacuating the Air India Express plane crash victims. The decision was taken based on the report submitted by Kondotty Circle Inspector.

Nizar had saluted the young volunteers, who had participated in the rescue operations on Friday and are now in quarantine at Kondotty here. A photograph of the police officer's gesture had gone viral on social media. However, this did not go well with the Malappuram police which felt that the police officer should have sought permission from his superior officials before saluting the volunteers. Following this, an enquiry was ordered. However, several people including Malappuram District Collector K Gopalakrishnan came in support of the police officer.
