NEW DELHI: The talks between the High Command and the Congress leaders in Kerala will begin today to assess the preparations for the Assembly elections, the setbacks in the local body elections and to resolve the disputes in the state Congress. KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran, former chief minister Oommen Chandy and opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala arrived in Delhi to attend the meeting.
AICC secretaries P Viswanathan, Ivan D'Souza and PV Mohan have submitted a report to General Secretary Tariq Anwar recommending the removal of DCC presidents from districts that have performed poorly in local elections. This report will be discussed today.
While the A and I groups have opposed the move to replace the DCC presidents, KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran is strongly demanding the removal of the presidents of the poorly performing districts. In the local body elections, the Congress did poorly in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kollam, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Palakkad districts.
The chairman of the assembly campaign committee will be decided soon. Oommen Chandy, K Sudhakaran and K Muraleedharan are under active consideration.
