NEW DELHI: Amid the ongoing investigation, the Delhi Police on Saturday released the photographs of 20 people who were allegedly involved in the violence that broke out at the Red Fort during the farmers' tractor parade on February 26.

The Delhi Police has been using facial recognition technology to identify the culprits from the unidentified huge crowds. The police said they are scanning the videos and releasing the pictures of the accused from them.

"We have released the pictures and the process of identification (of the people) has been started," PTI quoted a senior police officer as saying.

Earlier on Friday, the Delhi Police had released the photographs of 200 people who were allegedly involved in the violence during the farmers' tractor parade at Red Fort.

Thousands of protesters had clashed with the police during the tractor parade called by farmer unions on January 26 to highlight their demand for the repeal of the Central government's three new agricultural laws.

Police also using handwriting analysis to nab culprits

Referring to the investigation in the violence during the tractor rally, Delhi Police commissioner SN Shrivastava had earlier said of the 2,700 video clips and pictures that the police have received from the general public and hundreds of CCTV and mobile phone videos were analysed using video analytics and face recognition. The data gathered was then matched with a driving licence database to identify suspects.

“We are also using technology to help us with handwriting analysis, in tracking funding for anti-social activities and to retrieve deleted data from electronic devices,” he had said.

Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, have been protesting against the Narendra Modi government's three new farm laws since November 26 seeking repeal of three new laws and a legal guarantee of the MSP.
