MUMBAI: A 40-year-old man died after he was administered the second dose of a Covid-19 vaccine at a vaccination centre in the Bhiwandi area of Thane district in Maharashtra on Tuesday.
The deceased, Sukhdev Kirdat, worked as a driver for an eye surgeon in Bhiwandi.
After taking the shot around 11 am today, Sukhdeo Kirdat complained of giddiness while he was seated in the waiting hall at the civic-run inoculation centre.
Following this, he was rushed to IGM Hospital nearby where doctors declared him brought dead.
Dr KR Kharat, Medical Health Officer, Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC), said, "After being administered the vaccine, the man [Kirdat] started feeling dizziness after around 20 minutes. It is suspected that he died after 30 minutes. The family has revealed that he had been suffering from blood pressure-related issues and we are waiting for the post mortem report from JJ hospital to know the exact cause of his death."
Kirdat was a resident of Thane and had taken the first vaccine shot on January 28. Doctors have sent his body for forensic post-mortem to the JJ Hospital in Mumbai.
Sources said the exact reason behind his death will be known after a detailed post mortem. Doctors at Bhiwandi vaccination centre had checked his pulse and blood pressure which was said to be normal before he was administered the vaccine dose.
Sources said Kirsat was suffering from hypertension and took medicines for the same.
His family has meanwhile demanded a thorough probe into his death.
